Hello Fellow FLP'ers.
Here is a blog forum for us to see if it works. We can begin our "brainstorm" on our class project and just keep in touch. I am not a super blogger by any means, but this seems pretty straight forward. It is an option, not the only way, to communicate.
As a technology immigrant, I am open to other ideas as well. Have a great weekend. We could have a class project doing my dishes....

oh, anne, that is so generous of you to donate all your dishes to a charity of flp's choice. haha. just kidding... thanks for setting this up. :)
ReplyDeleteHi All-
ReplyDeleteFirst, Anne, I'm so impressed you set up a blog within hours of suggesting we start a blog. Also an immigrant to technology, it took me months to work up the guts to figure out how to set up a blog. Which I did...the address is www.majjcshow.blogspot.com if anyone cares about the details of my family's life.
I'm looking forward to all the ideas that are perculating out there. It seems to me that the issue of our times are 1. the depressed economy 2. green technology. I'm wondering if we can pull together our expertiese (and we seem to have a lot of green expertiese in our class) to address one or both of these issues. I like the idea of addressing the issues of our day much like the class who was in session during Katrina helped out the food banks. Other things that make this 2008-09 year unique is the historical election we all got to be a part of this year. The Obama administration is already encouraging community service. Matt and Stephanie Smith might have some ideas about how to get linked in with such non-partisan community service projects. Finally, I also love the idea of raising funds for scholarship money to go to others in the community who otherwise wouldn't have the means to be a part of this great Flagstaff Leadership Program. FLP and our very community would be even better than both already are if this program were available to more of our citizents. So, there's my 2 cents. I look forward to hearing about all the other ideas and then working on this with all of you. Angie
PS. Is there a way for each of us to make entries on the blog as Anne has or does everything have to be posted as a comment? Also, we should include our liasion Cheryl Blume in our discussion. Does anyone know her e-mail address?
Thanks Anne - this is a great idea. I would like to throw an idea out. I am up for picking up trash, painting, reroofing or whatever might be agreed on but would like to pose an 'outside the box' kind of idea. What if we committed to helping each individual in our class to accomplish what they really want to do as a leader in the community? Examples: Rolly wants to visit each of our work sites to understand what happens in the ditches of Flagstaff - so we each set that up for him. Jennifer is a new board member (Quality Connections) so we take some time to brainstorm about issues she has seen there or make our selves available to help in some way she says she needs. Say just for example- Dexter wants to run for Governor - we help get him into office -getting signatures, etc. (I could use this help when I run for FUSD School Board by the way.) I would expect it to be an on going commitment so that each of us gets something we need from the group, (real team work). We all have a reason for joining FLP - why don't we help each other accomplish our goals and achieve our dreams. Kathy

ReplyDeleteThis is great. I love all the wonderful ideas so far!!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to also recommend that we use our collective realms of expertise to select a school and get them either a small scale renewable system installed or simply have an energy audit proformed. This would require fund-raising, interfacing with the chosen school, gathering community support, possible curriculum development and installation. Sounds fun, eh??
Excellent ideas. My school is relatively small and could be an good candidate for a bit of green work.
ReplyDeleteI also like Jennifer's idea about selecting a school for an energy audit.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of getting our class mates expertise areas and pulling them together for some possible areas of projecting the best of the 09 class. I also caution to make our choice of project one that is within our collective means. I'm in it for the best possible project. Need a polka band?

I love the idea of helping a school out, wether its environmental or any other aspect, we all know they could use some help.
ReplyDeleteWith a number of folks suggesting involving schools let name one and explore from there. Could explore several. What needs have been identified from our LED sessions? Rollie
